Why I'm Asking Women to Wear White to My Wedding

Hello my lovelies! Apologies that I haven’t been able to write a lot lately, studying for exams and prepping the wedding have been consuming my time- which brings me to this current blog topic.

For my wedding’s dress code I asked female party guest to please wear black or white gowns (or black/white combo dress) on the day of. I’ll list below the reasons why I choose this color scheme, but wanted to first touch upon the range of negative reaction I’ve been receiving about my choice. Ranging from, “Well you’re not seriously wanting people to wear white”- why yes or I wouldn’t have put it on my invite. To the “I could never do that to you, it’s like upstaging the bride or something”- cue my eye roll.

Now I know we’re in our early twenties and therefore haven’t had the opportunity to attend a ton of weddings yet, but when a couple writes down their dress code for their wedding not only is that what they would like but there also might be a reason for it. So go along with it and have fun! I most certainly do NOT want to be staring out into a sea of depressing black and know that it was because my guests were too “scared” to wear white.

Avoid Foundation Flashback

Ever take a picture at night and feel like there's a weird white film over your face when you look back at the photo? That's foundation flashback and I went on a journey trying to find the best foundations to avoid it.

So I have this problem, it's a serious one and I've done months of research on fixing it- foundation flashback. It feels like no matter what foundation I'm wearing, when I take a photo at night with flash it rebounds making my face look super white. It's so severe sometimes that it makes me look a character on the Walking Dead. YIKES! Weird thing is in person, it looks totally normal and I know this happens to girls of all varying skin shades. So what causes foundation flashback?

Tips for Carry-On Only Travel

"I've gone on a 30 day trip with only a carry-on and a different outfit everyday and so can you with the tips below I gave to my mom before she packed for our vacation to Iceland & the UK last month."

What's the point of just carrying on you ask? Oh there's plenty! First, you don't have to lug around heavy bags as you go place to place- particularly on a long travel adventure. Secondly, if you check in online then you can go straight to the security gate or just check in at a electronic kiosk. Yup, no more having to wait in lines to drop off those pesky bags! Also, in a lot of countries having carry-on only helps you go through customs faster. When entering back into the USA they even have a special line for carry-on only people (I feel so special). Lastly, you don't have to wait at the carrousel for your luggage or risk it getting lost, you can just zip on to your hotel and start your adventure.

3 Ways to Make Girlfriends in Your New City

"Here's some things I did when I moved to a brand new town to start law school and after a month still felt totally friendless."

No one tells you how hard it can be to make friends after college. Finding besties in undergrad seemed so effortless that once you enter into the ~*real world*~ you wonder why finding fellow wine buddies is so hard. Well it's difficult because after college everyone really gets into their own bubble- including yourself. Whether it's trying to get a promotion, tackling graduate work, or starting a family- people just seems so consumed in their own stuff to really care to put themselves out there to make friends. It just stops being a priority. Here's some things I did when I moved to a brand new town to start law school and after a month still felt totally friendless.

My Experience With Another Culture

Well have you ever befriended a Muslim?”- The first question I ask when people express anti-Islam sentiment in regards to a vast portion of the American population.

I will start off this article by declaring that I am a moderate conservative and if you’re just not in the mood to read another article with some politicized statements in it then just go ahead and skip this one- I won’t be offended and I get it with how the media is these days. But in light of recent of events and the days to come, I wanted to share my experiences with Muslim Americans and to humanize those moments.

How To Find Your Fiance

So I recently got engaged and I had a lot of my friends ask me: how did you go from being "the single friend” to being wifed up? Well I think it has 50% to do with chance (where you are & who you randomly meet) and the other 50% is your mindset. Now am I some kind of expert on this? Absolutely not, but I did have a specific way of looking at relationships this last year that I think helped me focus on finding what I truly wanting and I tried breaking down the process into 5 tips.

Notre Dame Destroyed My FERPA Files

"You only got into Notre Dame because you're Cuban"- A fellow Freshman

A year ago a buzzfeed article was all over facebook about a loophole in FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). Students at Stanford had discovered that through FERPA you could request your admissions documents detailing everything the admissions board had noted on you when you were an applicant. Essentially why you were accepted to your school.

The Quick-Fix Pimple Cure: Cortisone Shot

What is THAT?! I look in the mirror and there's an enormous deep blemish (zit, pimple, cyst, gusher, mountain, etc. I say blemish because it sounds classy) right on my chest. I had a group vacay planned to the beach the next morning and this was not easily going to be hidden.

The Reality of Oil Pulling

Okay, so I tried oil pulling. I had read an article about all the benefits of oil pulling and thought I'd go ahead and give it a try. So what exactly is oil pulling? You put a spoon full of oil(usually coconut) in your mouth and swish it around for twenty minutes. It's suppose to drain out the toxins from your body and give you not only better dental care but general health benefits as well.

What's twenty minutes in the morning for a lifetime of health benefits? I went out that same day and got coconut oil.

I lasted for about 30 seconds.

How To Contour With Makeup You Already Own

So here’s a blog about how being in grad school made me creative enough to contour my face with makeup I already own because I’m too broke to buy new stuff.

All over the interwebz I’ve been seeing how to contour your face like this, contour your face like that, contour your face to look like a clown… maybe an alien. Anywho- I love to try new things with my makeup and on a bored sunday I popped up the youtube and searched for contour techniques for people with the complexion of a ghost.

After watching the video I felt empowered, felt like I could do this, felt ready to not look like myself- but then I looked at my bank account and it told me “no girl, you don’t have the $200 funds, you’ll continue to look like yourself OKAY” (like $20 bucks for a blender sponge… A SPONGE?! No way, I need to eat).

But I’m not one to give up so easily so I turned to my makeup bag to see if I could whip up anything with stuff I already own. Now ~*disclaimer*~ I do already own a wide array of makeup although I do not own anything specifically for contouring the way the pros say to to do it- I will try to give alternatives for items I happen to own but some might not. Also, while reading it in text might be hard to do, I recommend looking to youtube for exactly your needs on where to put the highlight/contour- especially for your face shape/skin tone.
