Function of Beauty Review: The Internet's Haircare Answer

I have got to be honest and say that I expected very little from this product. Like the smallest amount of expectations that is humanly possible. I thought I’d use this and then once my hair dried it would puff up, get tangled, and immediately need to take a second shower. So maybe going in thinking that it would actually have negative consequences made me ENTHRALLED that after I used Function of Beauty my hair dried beautifully and I didn’t even have to blow dry it to make it look done for the day.

So let’s rewind by starting off with how I found Function of Beauty, which is by being the most basic millennial possible. I’m embarrassed to say that I am easily highly influenced by Facebook marketing- ugh. So when I saw Function of Beauty’s cool advertising I couldn’t help but to click on the link and was once again hooked when I realized that not only could I personalize the shampoo and conditioner’s formula but that I could also have my name on the bottle. Yes, I said I was basic.

You start by taking a hair test:

Then you get to pick your formula (this was me pre getting a trim so my dead ends were horrible):

And the last step is picking your look:

The pricing with a $5 coupon code ended up being $26 which includes shipping- totally to $13 a bottle. So a little more expensive than drugstore brand makeup but way less expensive than a salon brand. I’m a salon brand type of chick, so once again I cannot stress enough how little I was expecting out of an online make your own product. That’s when it came to my door in the most adorable packaging. Ahhh, I’m sucha sucker!

It comes in very chic packaging and I can’t stress how impressed I was with the labeling. My name is literally on the bottle. Not just some cheap sticker slapped on but it’s on the packaging like it was branded that way. The bottles are cute with little twist tops but the box comes with pumps which is definitely key. I had selected the Sandalwood Violet scent in the strongest smell and it’s always hard to describe scents via the interwebs but I could best describe it as granny chic. I was expecting the sandalwood scent to come off more musky/beachy but it was definitely more of a solid floral smell. I asked Pat what he thought of it and he said he really liked the smell, so if male opinion means anything to you- he was down for it.

So Function of Beauty is paraben free as well as sulfate free, which is great for your hair if you dye it or have any de-frizz treatments (like me) but can sometimes mean that the shampoo won’t suds up well. I had not a single problem getting a nice lather with this shampoo, which really excited me because it was something I wasn't expecting. Next, the conditioner felt really rich and moisturizing and was happily surprised that I didn’t have to use a ton like I normally do. I then let it air dry to see what the product would do without any heat application. At the time I had horrible dead ends that would normally air dry straggly but with Function of Beauty they dried smoothly. My hair looked so nice that I didn’t even have to go over it with an iron or blow dryer. To say my low expectations were blown out of the water is an understatement.

If you are interested in trying it, here’s my $5 dollar off coupon link. You get 5 off and then I’ll get 5 off in the future. It’s a you scratch my back; I’ll scratch yours scenario.

Hope you love it as much as I do!
